Technical Developer


Working on the technical design spec’s outerwear product development for Ride outerwear. Working with Category Manager to develop a line and bring it to market.

Responsibilities:
  • Technical development in creating and maintaining garment specification binders for development proto’s, sales samples and production. Making sure that fit, trim placements, lining spec’s, color/fabric placements and are correct and accurate before final buy off. Interface with Category Manager to verify details of designs. Communicate specifications with factory of changes/corrections and questions that may come up.
  • Participate in the development sample review process through all phases of development, offering suggestions and solutions for complex constructions and problem areas, with special attention to fit, function and technical detailing. Evaluate all development prototypes, sales sample and production garments for accurate measurements, fabric/color placements, trim placements, fit and other details.
  • Technical spec drawings of product and details using Adobe Illustrator software.
  • Manage fit development for development proto’s, sales samples and final production. Working with pattern maker and fit models to develop various fits for men, women and kids. Insuring that factory is following measurement guidelines and fit blocks that are provided for sales samples and production.
  • Communication and problem solving with factories/vendors on materials, trims and design spec’s.
  • Create and maintain bill of material.
  • Evaluation and approval of color lab dips and prints.
  • Create and update outerwear collection overview for presentations.
  • Coordinating with external collaborators/companies for development needs (graphics, components).
  • Communicate via e-mail complex garment details and specs to a variety of contractors where English is limited.
  • Trim and hangtag/packaging timeline management development and approval (working with graphic designer in development of artwork/specs ready to hand off to factory for sampling). Working on all trim placements for all series.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines,
  • Possible traveling to Asian factories to help facilitate in development and production a couple times a year.
  • Create and produce various spreadsheets, work on various projects and maintain files/binders throughout the year.
  • Assisting in the design work as requested.
  • Assisting in working on glove development.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the related product industry.
  • 2 or 4 year degree with an outerwear/apparel emphasis preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in outerwear/apparel development/design.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must have the ability to work on several projects at one time and proficiency meet deadlines.
  • Accomplished in spec drawing skills with Adobe Illustrator.
  • Competence in Microsoft Excel, Word and Photoshop.
  • Team Player with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Familiar with sewing and pattern making.
